As I continue
through my career in corrections and my term as president of the Iowa
Corrections Association, I’ve come to realize that the learning process should
be a never-ending story. Once you’ve made the determination you have nothing
more to learn, you cease to grow both personally and professionally.
The Iowa Corrections Association continually strives to
provide quality information and opportunities to keep its membership on the leading
edge with what works in the institutional/community correctional field. One manner in which we do this is
with our bi-annual conferences. The finishing touches are being completed on
the 2015 Fall Conference Oct 28 – 30 at the Grand River Center in Dubuque and
is offering some great sessions such as author and nationally recognized expert
in de-escalation, Andra Medea. The Spring 2016 Conference is currently slated
for Davenport with the hotel site being finalized. The face of corrections is ever changing
with new laws being passed and new programs being tried. ICA is proud to be
your vehicle to these paths of change.
Please remember to support the Iowa
Corrections Association by remaining strong members and encouraging others to
join. Above all, remember that we are the ones who must support ourselves by
supporting each other. The benefits are enormous and provides
the skills for you to play a greater role in the goals of reducing recidivism
and keeping your family, friends and neighbors safe. Don’t hesitate to
reach out to your Board members if you have questions, ideas or if we can
assist you in any way.
It is an honor to serve alongside all of the dedicated corrections
professionals that make up the ICA membership.
I look forward to seeing you all in Dubuque in October.
